Thank you for being a Premium Member of Geeks on Tour. This week we're giving you an encore episode of "What Does This Button Do." Episode 123 was all about making a website and blog using the free tools from Google called Blogger.com. Here is the .pdf file for the written show notes for
episode 123: How do I make a blog?
One of the first things people ask is, "What is the difference between a blog and a website?" Well, a blog is a website, but it is a special kind of website where you can easily add new entries for new dates. It's like a journal with dated entries. But it's more than that. We recommend using the Free Blogger.com tools and if you watch just 7 minutes of this weekly show, starting at 5:57 you'll hear what we have to say about it.
To see an example of a website created with Blogger.com:
- Go to LearnGooglePhotos.com
This is a site we created just for posting articles about Google Photos. It was created 100% free using the Blogger.com basic tools.
- Notice the Home page is the "Blog" part - the articles, each one is dated and the most recent is on top. To add another article, you just write a new post - it will automatically be dated, sorted, and added to the archive.
- Notice the other menu items, like How-To Videos, and More... These "Pages" can be for anything you like, they are not dated.
- More benefits:
a website created with Blogger.com will automatically have a mobile version so it looks good on phones and tablets.
a website created with Blogger.com will automatically be secure, notice the httpS: in the address bar, all for no cost.
