Does Google Photos sync when you delete or edit photos?
Last week we did our show on how to copy photos from phone to computer. See Episode 249 here. This week we will not do a live show. We will be live next week
(1/29/23) talking about preparations for our February Indonesia trip.
We think the best way to copy photos from phone to your computer is by using the cloud as an intermediary. If you do use the cloud it's important to understand whether it is just storing a copy of your photos or it is syncing between the two. Sync is when you have one copy of the photo in the cloud, and one on your
device.
To see only the photos in the Google cloud, go to Photos.Google.com
To see only the photos on your device, open the native photos or gallery app on your phone. On iPhone that would be Apple Photos, on Samsung that would be Gallery. On the Pixel (made by Google) there is only Google Photos, so this doesn't apply to you - lucky
you!
If you edit or delete from either side, is that reflected on the other?
Watch the video below for a refresher, then try:
Edit a photo in the cloud, is it reflected on your device?
Delete a photo from
the cloud, is it deleted on your device?
Edit a photo just on the device (use Apple Photos or Samsung Gallery.) Is it changed in the cloud?
Delete from the device, is it deleted in the cloud?
