What a month! May 2026

At the beginning of May, we were in Indonesia on the island of Java. Jim visited world renowned temples and I went line dancing with locals.

From Bali to Borobudur

After a stunning full-moon departure from Bali, our latest stop in Indonesia brought a wonderful "choose your own adventure" day in Semarang.

On Board Seminar: 7 Tips

While on board the ship, we presented a seminar called 7 Smartphone Tips for Everyone. Simple but very useful tips like how to save a QR code for scanning later, and using low power mode on your phone when wandering around off the ship. Episode 322 from Borneo

From Java we headed to Singapore where we had scheduled health screenings. After Singapore was Borneo and a promise of Orangutans. We show photos in episode 322 along with tech tips about removing fences from photos with Google Photos and how to use the oh-so-useful "Circle to Search."

Converting Currencies

When you’re hopping between countries, the math can get a little fuzzy. Lately, one app has earned a permanent spot on my phone’s home screen: The Currency Converter by Wise. The app is available on iOS and Android, plus there is a web version - linked above.

What I like about it is how easy it is to choose any currency and convert it to any other currency. You don’t even need to know the name of the currency, you can search by country. In the last month, we’ve used 4 different currencies, not counting our US Dollars. The Wise Currency Converter was fast and easy any time we needed to know what the values were in a different currency.

The converter is completely free as a standalone app, it is made by the same people who operate the Wise International Financial Platform, but you don’t need an account to use the currency converter. We do have a Wise account and the debit card that goes with it. This is what we use to get cash at ATMs and pay for dining and shopping on shore. It feels good not to be using my primary bank account while traveling. We have talked about Wise before in Episode 251 of our YouTube show.
