Geeks on Tour

A new Geek-Mobile!

2011041 We outgrew our old motorhome a while ago, but it has been very difficult to find anything we liked as much.  We finally did!  We first saw it on display at the FMCA SE Area Rally in Brooksville a few months ago.  We spoke to the sales rep - Steve from Harberson's RV - and took the brochure for our files.  As we're preparing to hit the road for a 11,000 mile tour this summer, we got that brochure out and wondered if the rig was still available.  It was!
Now it's ours and we couldn't be more thrilled.  For more details, see our personal blog.
We're looking for a name for this new rig, if you have any suggestions, please let us know by using this form.

On our way to RV SEF Conference

Our next rally is a special one ... All RVers are invited to sign up for the 2011 RV Lifestyle, Education & Safety conference and learn about all phases of RVing. The conference is slated for May 6 to 8, 2011, at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center in Bowling Green, Ky.
What's special about it from our viewpoint is that it's small.  If you sign up and come to our seminars you'll be in a room with 20 people rather than 600!  Lots more personal attention. And, if you're looking for RV Education, it just doesn't get any better.  Here's the lineup of instructors

Picasa Tip: Frame your Photos with Picnik

imageThere actually is a way to provide simple frames for your pictures just using Picasa's Collage tool.  But now, with the online editing tool called Picnik, it's even easier, and you can get really fancy.

So, how do you do this?  Just select the picture you want to frame then click the Picnik button on the Basic Fixes tab.  You need a good, fast Internet connection for this to work because all the Picnik editing tools are completely web-based.

Google Maps-More Than Just Directions

imageIf you've haven't visited Google Maps in a while, you're in for a treat.  It's completely web-based, 'in the clouds' according to the current lingo, so just head on over to www.maps.google.com.  What you see depends on whether the little icon in the upper right is set to Map or Satellite.

Internet Connections from the Road.

internet-road Many travelers carry several devices that can connect to the Internet.  Computers, iPads, iPods, iPhones, Androids, Blackberries, game consoles, printers, and more.  These devices often use WiFi to connect. Public WiFi hotspots can provide faster connections than 3G cellular.  There are generally no limits for data when using a public hotspot.  The WiFi Ranger allows you to power your home/RV network with the public WiFi Hotspot's Internet connection.

Scan 4 Pictures in One Pass, then Separate with Export

imageQuestion: I'm scanning my family photos by putting 4 of them on the scanner at one time.  I scan it and copy 3 times, so I can crop each one and end up with the 4 individual pictures.  Is there a better way?

First of all, I prefer not to use a scanner at all.  I just open up the old photo albums and use my digital camera to snap pictures of the pictures.  Much faster.  The quality is better than you may expect.  If you do indeed scan multiple pictures into one file, here is the best way to separate them in Picasa.
