September- California to the East Coast |
|
We had a long ways to go in September. On the 5th we were in Reno, Nevada. On September 16, we had to be in Arlington, VA to honor Jim's Dad at his inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery. We had 10 days, we made it in 7! 55 hours of actual drive time, and Jim drove all but 2 of that! We covered 2700 miles and 13 states. Read more, with lots of pictures, in our personal blog post.
After Arlington, we visited Sun City Hilton Head and did some teaching, then back to home base in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Geeks on Tour Teach at Sun City Hilton Head |
|
This was our third visit to Sun City Hilton Head. We continue to be blown away by all their activities, especially the computer club. The header and pictures above come from the club's website. Our faces probably won't be up there for long because they have SO much going on and they're constantly updating their site. There are 2,400 residents who belong to the Computer Club! When they announced that we would be there and teaching hands-on iPhone/iPad and Android classes, the classes were full with a waiting list within a few hours!
We also presented a seminar on Cloud Computing to the Computer Club while we were there. And, they even have an RV parking area with full hookups! Thanks again to Catherine Tracy for introducing us to the club and inviting us to come teach. We look forward to returning!

Solve Problems by Restarting your Smartphone or Tablet |
Just like we learned with computers, Restart (or 'Reboot' for us old-timers) is the single most important troubleshooting tool you can use for fixing problems with your Smartphone or Tablet. Sometimes the phone or tablet won't even respond to the power button - in those cases you need to remove the battery. Can you remove the battery in your device? Many of them are sealed now and you can't remove it. So, what do you do?

Backup your Blog with a Book |
Making a book out of your blog is a great idea for a couple of reasons:- It's a backup that contains all the text and pictures, in case anything should happen to your Blog.
- It can be a physical printed book that will be around for generations to come, even when people don't use computers any more!
Don't worry, you don't have to pay for a nice hard-cover book if you just want a backup, you can get a digital download copy in .pdf format very inexpensively.

Apps for Travelers: Gas Buddy and iExit |
Do you have a smartphone or tablet connected to the Internet as you're traveling down the road? We hope so! That is, if you're in the passenger seat! It's hard to believe that they've only been in existence for 6 years. Our Android phones have been helping us with all our travel information needs for nearly 4 years. Recently, our iPad mini has taken over. Even though it's only been a few years, I just can't imagine how we ever traveled without our smartphones and tablets.
