An Eclectic June |
Where we've been: The photo shows our parking spot at the Grissom Air Museum - thanks to HarvestHosts.com. We started the month parked on the Mississippi River in the Quad-Cities near Moline, Illinois. Our work for the Quad Cities Computer Club made us front page news in the local paper! Then we went back to Goshen, Indiana for the Fleetwood/Glamarama rally, and some RV work (successful!) at Master Tech RV in Elkhart. We're currently staying at an Elks Lodge parking lot just outside of Denver, CO. See our June photo album for lots of pictures, and our blog for June for all the details!
Where we're going: Chris will be flying to Florida for a short visit while Jim holds down the fort here in Denver.
We'll be back on our westward track by July 12, traveling thru Idaho destined for rallies in Oregon for the first 2 weeks of August. We're thinking there will be enough time to make a swing up to the Seattle area before the rallies begin. We've planned to see the Pacific Northwest several times but haven't made it yet. See our tentative route and stops on our Calendar/Map
page.
By the way, our pictures, Blogs, Web Albums, maps, and videos are all examples of what we teach. If you're a traveler, we teach you how to plan, preserve, and share your travels. It makes the experience that much more enjoyable to get creative on the computer and share your travels with friends and family.

A Weekly Geeks on Tour "Show" |
This is a weekly educational show by Geeks on Tour where we explore smartphones and tablets. Every week we will Start at the Beginning with things that beginners need to know about operating Android and Apple devices. We will also present our App of the week, and a tip
specifically about the Samsung Galaxy S5. Tune in to our Google+ page on Sundays at 2pm EDT to watch from any computer or tablet, or phone!
Why are we doing this? Because we can! Google+
Hangouts on Air is such an amazing technology that, for free, gives anyone with a computer and an Internet connection their own Internet production with a live, worldwide broadcast. And, it's automatically recorded as a Youtube video which you can watch any time. There is so much to learn about smartphones and tablets that we figure a weekly half-hour is a good way for us to keep up! Go to our Google+
page and RSVP for the next show, then you can leave your questions in the comments. We'll try to address the questions during the live show, if we don't get to it, we'll answer in the comments.
You don't need to be a Google+ user to watch the show, only to RSVP and comment.
Episode one is in the can! We had a bit of trouble getting Chris' iPad to cooperate in its dual role of being her production camera, and also being the Apple device to be demonstrated. We've edited out the painful parts though, so if you watch the recording, you'll hardly notice! See you on Sunday!

Q&A Forum |
Here are some of the topics that have been discussed this month. Anyone can read the forum, only members can ask questions.

Keep your Facebook Account Safe |
A lot of our traveling friends use Facebook to keep in touch, so we take it seriously when we hear scare stories about people getting "hacked" on Facebook. Here's the latest one I heard from a friend of mine: "Three
friends of mine have had imposters make up Facebook accounts using their names, profile picture, and other information that was public on their page. Then, they harvested my friends' public list of friends, and sent fake friend requests to them, instructing them to delete the "old" (REAL) accounts due to some phony made up computer problem. In the most recent, the imposter claimed the real account was lost to a Trojan on her Facebook. There is no such thing as a Trojan on Facebook but many
people fell for it anyway. In every case...the imposter took the profile of a female friend in her late 50s or early 60s who is very trustworthy, admired, and who has friends who also look trustworthy (trusting!) and in every case, was able to convince people to befriend the imposter account." This article will teach you how to prevent this from happening to you....

Sharing your Travel Photos Online |
We take photos almost daily. They all collect on my computer hard drives, and I pick the best ones to share online. I use Picasa on my computer and I generally organize the photos by month using folder names like 201405 for May, 2014. Picasa is a free program from
Google. For my online photo albums - "Web Albums" - I use Google+ Photos because it is so easy to upload pictures with the Share tool provided by Picasa.

Roadtripper App Gives you Great Travel Ideas |
We're currently in a nice County RV park in Topeka, Kansas. I've never been in Topeka before and have no idea what there is to see and do here. So, I open up Roadtripper on my smartphone and set it to show me any Attractions, History, or Nature places.
Now I look at the map around my location and see several icons representing those places. If you tap on one of the icons, you will see the detail of the place show up at the bottom of the screen, or, you can choose the list view rather than map view by tapping on the horizontal lines icon at the bottom. Then you'll see something like this:
