Geeks in May

May started at the SKP ACRE rally in Tennessee. Then, on the way home we traded in our old 37 foot motorhome for a new (to us) 21 foot Roadtrek. We can't wait to get back on the road with this little camper.

Then it was time to prepare for a month of travel in Europe! We started in Florence, spent a week in Tuscany with Chris attending a writer's retreat, then on to Venice. We set up a special photo album for our Europe travels because it's going to span May and June. As I write this we are in Ljubljana, Sovenia and headed to eastern Croatia where Jim's grandfather was born. We are adding photos to the album all the time, be sure to scroll down to the bottom to see the newest photos.
We haven't done any live streaming from Europe ... yet! Keep a watch on our Facebook page and our Youtube channel - we did post one little video from our first week in Tuscany. See our personal travel blog for more stories.

By the way, our pictures, Blogs, Web Albums, maps, and videos are all examples of what we teach.  You can learn how to plan, preserve, and share your travels (or your life.)  It makes the experience that much more enjoyable to get creative and share pictures, maps, stories, and movies with friends and family. Check out our Learning Library of Tutorial Videos, just go to GeeksOnTour.com and click the menu for Tutorial Videos. There are plenty of free videos in addition to our members-only content to whet your appetite for learning.

Google Translate and Google Maps take the fear out of foreign travel.

In Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia, we are depending on Google Maps and Google translate. We could not travel on our own without them!

This comes from Google Maps. If you have location history turned on as a setting in your google account, and you have GPS/Location services turned on in your phone, this map happens automatically. Read the article to find out how to see this map that is created for you automatically.

Your smartphone will count your steps

Ok, I really just wanted to show off my recent step count! But, the article is about the fact that you don't need to find a separate app, or buy another device, your phone most likely has one pre-installed that will automatically count your steps.

Don't assume that Google Photos is backing up your pictures.

There's nothing worse than thinking your photos are backed up, deleting them from your phone and then realizing they weren't backed up after all.
